2012 has been a challenging year for several emerging fashion designers, especially
if we consider that special events such as WhoIsOnNext? or the Vogue Talents selection at Palazzo Morando acted as a springboard for them.
Andrés Caballero
is one of those talented fashion designers. Born in 1981 in Mexico,
he is the creative spirit behind the San Andrès Milano tailoring brand, whose strength lies in the rich cultural and
training background which took him from Mexico City to the
Marangoni School in Milan and then at the Paris American Academy in
Paris, where he specialized in Haute Couture.

emergenti il 2012 è stato un anno molto significativo e
manifestazioni come WhoIsOnNext? o la selezione dei Vogue Talents esposta a Palazzo Morando durante la settimana della moda di
settembre, si sono rivelate dei veri e propri trampolini di lancio.
Tra questi designer
spicca il nome di Andrès Caballero, stilista messicano,
classe 1981, anima creativa del brand sartoriale San Andrès
Milano, il cui punto di forza sta nel ricco background
culturale e formativo che da Città del Messico lo ha portato
alla Marangoni School di Milano e alla Paris American Academy di
Parigi dove si è specializzato in Haute Couture.

The first time we met at
Palazzo Morando, I had the impression of being in front of a tailor
from the past, in fact, as in the best tailoring tradition, just
after the sketches, Andrès makes his dress by draping the fabric
on the mannequin (moulage technique).
I still remember that I
was struck by the white and turquoise pleated neo-classical dress on
the clothes hanger, it looked like a contemporary peplos stolen from
a greek sculpture.
Sin dal primo incontro
a Palazzo Morando, ho avuto l'impressione di trovarmi davanti ad un
sarto di altri tempi, Andrès è infatti un grande appassionato
degli stilisti del passato e come nell'alta sartoria tradizionale
crea i suoi modelli passando direttamente dal figurino disegnato a
mano, al drappeggio del tessuto sul manichino con la tecnica del
moulage. Ricordo ancora il momento in cui sono rimasto colpito
dall'abito bianco e turchese plissettato dal sapore
neo-classicheggiante, alla Madame Grés.

We met again in January
for the 83rd edition of Pitti Uomo in Florence, where he presented the
first men's capsule collection for Autumn Winter 2013/14.
The particular twill
mohair wool of the coats caught my attention and that sandy color was
a clear the reference to the rough textures used by the Mexican
architect Luis Barragàn.
Andrès imagined the
menswear line for a cosmopolitan man, who needs to be comfortable
and stylish at the same time, wearing classic military-inspired
coats with a special relaxed fit, or casual garments made with the
finest tailoring details.
The accessories are one
of the most important part of the collection, and in the last 6 years
they conquered the Asian markets thanks to the excellence of the
materials and the workmanship, entirely handcrafted near Milan.
Incontro nuovamente
Andrès a gennaio all'83esima edizione di Pitti Uomo dove
presenta la prima capsule collection maschile per la stagione
Autunno Inverno 2013/14.
Ciò che cattura a
prima vista l'attenzione è sicuramente la scelta dei materiali, in
particolare il twill di lana mohair color sabbia nel quale è palese
il riferimento alle texture grezze delle architetture del maestro
messicano Luis Barragàn. La linea è immaginata per un uomo
cosmopolita sempre in viaggio, che ha bisogno di essere comodo ed
elegante, con giacconi di ispirazione militare dalla vestibilità
rilassata e capi informali resi raffinati grazie a dettagli
sartoriali tipici della costruzione delle giacche. Anche gli
accessori assumono un'importanza fondamentale, anzi, da ben 6 anni la
linea di borse è il fiore all'occhiello del brand nei mercati
orientali grazie all'eccellenza delle lavorazioni ed i materiali,
quali vitello lavato o stampa cocco, declinati su borse da viaggio e
da lavoro realizzati artigianalmente nei pressi di Milano.

The neo-retro allure by
Andrés Caballero, however, didn't stop in Florence so long and at
the end of January debuted at the Fashion Week in Rome with
the San Andrès Milano Fall Winter 2013/2014 fashion show,
which transformed the Santo Spirito in Sassia catwalk in a sort of
lecture on the aesthetics of Luis Barragàn.
The warm and bright
colors used by the Mexican architect for the walls became graphic
compositions on minimal silhouettes; while the layers of crêpe
wool, bouclé mohair or silk twill looked like the contrasting
architectural textures of water/stone, wood/masonry, earth/concrete.
A tribute collection to a
great Mexican master, in the name of the classic tailoring and
Lombard craftsmanship, with an eye to the past and one in the future.
Lo stile neo-retrò di
Andrès Caballero però non si ferma certo a Firenze e a fine
gennaio durante la settimana dell'alta moda a Roma sfila anche la collezione donna San Andrès Milano autunno inverno
2013/2014, che trasforma la passerella di Santo Spirito in Sassia
in una lectio magistralis sull'estetica dell'architetto modernista
messicano Luis Barragàn.
I colori vivaci e
caldi usati per le pareti delle sue opere si traducono in
composizioni grafiche su abiti minimali dalla silhouette morbida,
mentre i layer sovrapposti in crêpe di lana e bouclè mohair o i
giochi intarsiati di lana e twill di seta sembrano citare i
contrasti materici di acqua/pietra, legno/muratura, terra/cemento.
Un vero e proprio
omaggio ad un grande maestro messicano, nel segno della sartoria
classica e dell'artigianalità lombarda, guardando sempre con un
occhio al passato ed uno al futuro.
