Over this short but
intense Christmas break I decided to dedicate the first posts of the
new year to the woman Spring Summer 2013 collections,
concluding the series of reviews dedicated to the Milan Fashion Week.
I start this little tour
through Italian fashion with the collection of Maurizio Pecoraro:
a Sicilian born designer (1966), who is still called "emerging",
due to a silly Italian cultural vice of not considering the designers
who came out after the mid 90s (despite he launched his own brand in
1998). He has a mature and recognizable aesthetic vision and his long
career would scare many of the so-called "big designers",
but the several foreign buyers and the famous journalists sitting in
the front rows know that.
Durante questo breve,
ma intenso periodo di pausa natalizia ho maturato la decisione di
riservare i primi post dell'anno alle collezioni moda donna
primavera estate 2013 completando la serie di recensioni dedicate
alla Milano Fashion Week di settembre prima delle imminenti sfilate
invernali.
Apro così questo tour
con la collezione di Maurizio Pecoraro, lo stilista siciliano,
classe 1966, che per un vizio tutto italiano viene ancora definito
"emergente" quando in realtà la sua visione e concezione
estetica è matura e riconoscibile. Il suo curriculum farebbe
impaurire molti dei cosiddetti "big", e lo sanno bene i
numerosi buyer stranieri ed i giornalisti di punta schierati nelle
prime file dell'antica sala consiliare del Palazzo della Ragione di
Milano.
The Visionar(t)y
collection is inspired by art: Maurizio Pecoraro in fact, creates
a sort of dialogue with nature looking for references in Robert
Mapplethorpe's still lifes. He chromatically revisited the calla
lily series declining them on slightly flared dresses and coats made
of parachute cloth or studded with sequins.
La collezione dal
titolo Visionar(t)y non poteva che trarre ispirazione dal
mondo dell'arte, Maurizio Pecoraro infatti crea un dialogo con la
natura ricercando un riferimento nelle still life di Robert
Mapplethorpe rivisitate cromaticamente e declinate su abiti e
capispalla leggermente svasati realizzati in tela paracadute o
tempestati di paillette per la versione da sera.

The "Flowers"
series by Irving Penn seems whispered as in a velatura
painting technique on ethereal and gauzy silks;

while the brush
strokes of the Korean artist Lee Ufan, fruit of "one or
two minutes of intense concentration, supported by a only deep
breath", become a minimalistic pattern. They are a new kind of
imperfect lines in the natural shades of blue, burgundy, brown and
green, contrasting with the neutral high-tech fabrics.

mentre le pennellate
del coreano Lee Ufan, frutto (come dice l'artista stesso) "di
uno o due minuti di intensa concentrazione, sostenuta da un solo
respiro profondo", vengono riproposte come minimale motivo
decorativo: un nuovo tipo di linea imperfetta nelle tinte naturali
del blu, bordeaux, marrone e verde, in contrasto con i neutri tessuti
high tech.

The sequin evening
dresses covered by the coats with three-quarter sleeves alternate
with minimal sporty tank tops and shorts, but they are all
united by the rounded edges which define a new concept of
contemporary chic.
Nella sequenza di
outfit che calcano la passerella gli eleganti abiti da sera in
paillette celati sotto giacconi a mezza gamba con maniche a tre
quarti si alternano a top e bermuda minimali dal mood sportivo,
ma sono tutti accomunati dalla forma stondata degli orli che
definiscono un nuovo concetto di chic contemporaneo.
I didn't want to publish
anyone of the photos taken in the show, or rather, the "impressions
of lights left by the running models that I awkwardly caught with my
smartphone", but the more I look at them, the more I think this
shimmering effect is one of the main qualities of the
collection. The Maurizio Pecoraro woman is a sort of contemporary
Mother Nature who shines at
every step thanks to all the sequins and floral applications
enriching her wide and soft silhouette, creating a strong contrast
with the gray background of the city.
She is a shining
woman.
She has "the
light" inside.
Ad una prima selezione
delle foto scattate o, per meglio dire, delle "impressioni di
luce lasciate dalle modelle che correvano sulla passerella e che ho
catturato maldestramente con lo smartphone", non volevo
pubblicarne nemmeno una, ma è proprio in questo effetto
luccicante che ho trovato uno dei punti forza della collezione.
Una sorta di Madre Natura che illumina il suo incedere grazie a minuscoli punti luce e applicazioni floreali che arricchiscono le silhouette ampie e morbide, creando un forte contrasto con lo sfondo grigio della città.
